Someone else may be able to find a more elegant way of saying it, but that is what it means.

A pipette is actually a suction device used to suction up liquids from one container and transfer them to another container. The word is used both as a noun and as a verb. The article cited below on "Serum, Plasma and Whole Blood Collection" uses the word in both ways. An example of the use of this word as a verb is in point 3 of the instructions here:
http://www.nicholsinstitute.com/SpecimenCollection/SerumPlas...
Pipette the serum or plasma into a clean plastic screw-cap vial and attach the label.
For an example of its use as a noun, see the same site, below number 6, where it says:
Transfer the serum with a pipette to a plastic vial for transport to the laboratory.
Note from asker:
I would have liked this in the glossary too. I didn't realise I could only choose one!
