Dutch term

op het netvlies van klanten komen

Dutch to English Marketing Marketing book
Hi. This is from a book about marketing for Human Resources. I'm collaborating on it and a fellow translator insists "positioneren is op het netvlies van klanten komen" means "seeing through the client's eyes". I think it's more the sense of making an imprint on their mind, but would be grateful for some adjudication.

be striking to the client

or 'appeal to the client', certainly more 'make an impression on the client' than 'see through the client's eyes' in my humble opinion.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks so much to everyone for answering, all the answers were really helpful. Went for Dave's 'make an impression on the client' in the end, as it fitted well with the rest of the context."

place yourself directly in your customers' field of vision

I think it also means making an imprint on their mind.

making the customer aware of your existence

A more literal translation would be: to make an imprint on clients' retina, hence making the customer aware that you might be the solution to their problem.

giving your product a certain imago, making the client perceive the product in a certain way

In marketing, positioning is the technique by which marketers try to create an image or identity for a product, brand, or organisation. It is the 'place' a product occupies in a given market as perceived by the target market. Positioning is something that is done in the minds of the target market. A product's position is how potential buyers see the product. Positioning is expressed relative to the position of competitors.

If you need something a bit snappier, maybe \"catching the eye of your target customer\"?

agree blackbird : depending on the tone of the book: I've heard "catching eyeballs" as marketing slang :)
