the period of limitation has been interrupted
van Dale:
(juridisch) de verjaring stuiten
interrupt the period of limitation
this would mean:
unless this period of limitation has been interrupted
Example:
The only way to interrupt the period of limitation is consequently to bring a legal action.11 Other ways of interrupting the period of limitation that generally are applicable to tort or contractual claims (e.g. serving the debtor with a written demand) do not
apply.
Additionally, the statute provides that the limitation period starts to run when the ‘damage was caused’.

Dank je, Michael. Sounds like legalese :-) and it seems plausible but I am not an expert in legal terminology

Discussion
Opschorting verjaringstermijn

schorsing = suspension
stuiting = interruption
Think of it as playing a music track. Suspension means that the track is paused - it can be started again later. Interruption means that the track is re-wound - it will start from the beginning again.
"Stuiting van verjaring" (interruption of the period of limitation) therefore means that the period is stopped and that a new period starts to run immediately. A typical example of this is when further investigation reveals new offences.
I'm offering this simply as background information - it might help to better understand the exact meaning of the text.
