Dutch term

4 om 5 dagen

Dutch to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s) Employment Contract
Werknemer treedt in dienst op basis van een fulltime dienstverband. Dit wordt omgezet in een parttime dienstverband van 90% (4 om 5 dagen).

I assumed this meant that the employee would work 4 out of 5 days, but 90% of 40 hours is 36 hours, and 4 days at 8 hours is only 32 hours, so less than 90%. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Discussion

Adam Smith Jun 19, 2007:
It probably refers to working an alternating 4 day / 5 day week. This gives you 18 days per 4 weeks or 90% (18/20)

I think what this means is that the employee works 4 days the one week, and five days the next, and then 4 days the week after that... This also works with the percentages you have given, 4 days being 80% and 5 days being 100%, meaning 90% as an average.

agree Robert Kleemaier : That's my take too, Dennis. A Dutch friend has this arrangement with his employer.

Thanks Kate!
agree Tina Vonhof (X) : So the translation could be 'alternate 4-day and 5-day weeks' or something to that effect.

Trying my own bad calculations, I must assume it's because 'tis the blessed land of Holland, where 36 hours a week is regarded as full-time (though not for the poor self-employed).

4 and 5 days per week alternately

"alternately" referring to a weekly change
