Dutch term

dicht op het huid zitten

Dutch to English Art/Literary Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
Artikelen over dingen die mij dicht op het huid zitten (filosofie, carriere, ambitie)....

I was thinking along the lines of 'are close to my heart', but Van Dale gives 'hevig aansporen' for 'iemand dicht op het huid zitten' - I've seen examples of this meaning online.
Can it also have the meaning I came up with? Any thoughts anyone?

close to my heart

'close to my heart' was the first thing that sprang to mind. Articles on matters that are close to to my heart or optionally ....that I consider to be important.

oops! 'to to' my heart, should, of course, read 'to my heart'

Thank you.
agree Alice Saunders (X) : het is overigens "dicht op DE huid zitten" maar close to my heart zit er het dichtste bij

Thanks, Alice.
agree Dennis Seine : 'iemand op de huid zitten' is indeed 'iemand hevig aansporen', but this is not what the writer is trying to say in your example. I believe Siobhan's translation is indeed the correct one, though I must say it doesn't seem very common to me.

Thank you.
agree Tina Vonhof (X) : Good translation of what was intended but wrong use of the Dutch expression in this context.

Thanks, Tina. Oh the joys of translating! It would be so much easier (but perhaps less interesting) if it were all more straightforward.
agree Jack den Haan : With Tina, too.
