Glossary entry (derived from question below)
Dutch term or phrase:
vakbekwamen personen; vakbekwaam persoon (code BA5)
English translation:

Dutch term
Vakbekwamen; vakbekwaam persoon (code BA5)
Has anyone perhaps come across an English translation of this term?
--------------

Thanks Josephine! Eriks's link above solves the problem for this question, and my other question (http://www.proz.com/kudoz/dutch_to_english/electronics_elect_eng/4404328-gewaarschuwden%3B_gewaarschuwde_personen_code_ba4.html#9856946) |

: It's an international code: BA4 = instructed, BA5 = skilled (see http://www.electrical-installation.org/wiki/List_of_external...

qualified person, qualified electrician
Can someone here point to a reference showing a consistent use of (two) English terms OTHER than "skilled" and "instructed" [for "Gewaarschuwden Personen (BA4)", + "Vakbekwamen Personen (BA5)"] in connection with "External influences" in standard IEC 60364-5-51? If not, it would seem that "skilled/instructed" should be used as the English standard terms here. |
E.g., here is a UK website (The Electrician's Guide, to the 16th Edition IEE Regulations), that uses the term "skilled" for Ba5: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Book/2.4.3.htm ... |

FreeHansje
: I completely agree, but the link given in previous comment is very clear.

There is no evidence that "skilled" and "instructed" are the internationally accepted terms in English. "International English" websites are always suspect.

Jack den Haan
: I quite agree with your response to FreeHansje, but this term is based on and used in an internationally accepted standard (IEC 60364-5-51).

F Scott Ophof (X)
: The definition of 'vakbekwaam' in the source does not even hint at formal qualification. So the explanation given by TechLawDC disqualifies the term 'qualified' as answer. Sorry for the pun.

competent person
A Competent Person is a business that has been adjudged to be sufficiently competent to self-certify that its work complies with Part P of the Building Regulations of England and Wales.
A Competent Person must be registered with a scheme that has been approved by The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG). Schemes authorised by the DCLG are listed on its website at http://www.communities.gov.uk.
To understand why you should use a Competent Person, click here to download the consumer booklet.
This website has been developed by a collaboration of all of the approved scheme providers to provide the consumer with the ability to search for a Competent Person registered with one of the schemes.
While compliance with Part P of the Building Regulations is compulsory, registration with a Competent Person Scheme is not. Businesses carrying out work covered by the Building Regulations are encouraged to join one of the government's approved schemes. Alternatively, they may choose to continue to use a building control body.
Currently this site is dedicated to Part P of the Building Regulations, which is related to electrical safety in the home. It is intended that members of other Competent Person schemes will be included on this site at some time in the future.
