I'm very uncertain about this verse, but my guess is:
The guests sat, talking of poetry, until a cold wind arose;
and then returned, moonlight falling through the curtain, talking of painting.

The more I think of this, the more I agree, OH. 'Cold wind' is not appropriate here. I pictured the talkers retreating inside because of a cold wind, but this may be the wrong tone for this post. What do you think about this:
The guests say, talking of poetry, until conversation became spirited;
and then returned, like moonlight through a curtain, talking of painting.
In this translation the guests themselves are like a wind -- 'spirit' derives from the word breath -- and moonlight.

: "风生" here is not a rise of cold wind, if a wind rise, not necessarily cold, more probably warm, actually here a pun, also referreing to "谈笑风生", the guest brings loviliness, and a spirited talk about poetry is up. I don't think it can be translated really.

You're right. I added 'cold' to my translation / interpretation because the wind causes them to return inside (behind the curtain).
