figures physiologiques

French to English Medical Medical: Instruments EEG
Hello,

This is a recurrent expression from an EEG report concerning a young patient with severe epilepsy/encephalopathy:

Absence de ***figures physiologiques*** dans la veille et le sommeil.

Dans le sommeil, les ***figures physiologiques*** ne sont pas identifiables.

Is this simply referring to physiological activity as shown on the recording, or is there more to it?

Thank you in advance!!

Good point Daryo, thanks for pointing it out, and making the expression clearer. I will try to dig further as well as take your insights into account in my final translation.
Daryo Nov 5, 2022:
This MUST have some implied omitted elements.

Literally "no physiological activity" can only mean a most literally dead patient.

So what they are looking for must be some specific "figures physiologiques" that would be the characteristic signs of whatever they want to test the patient for.

As a parallel, in the context of looking for some specific type of body movement you would say "no movement" only if THAT type of movement is not detected.

Another clue: "les ..." implying "previously mentioned / defined" (as opposed to "des ...")

My guess would be that "les figures physiologiques" they are looking for are signs of / related to epilepsy and/or encephalopathy, not just any "figures physiologiques" that could happen to manifest themselves.

Thank you.
disagree Daryo : something that is implied is missing - if there is literally "no physiological activity" it can only mean a dead patient.
