Regulations for Elections
In the article 304 for the Regulations for elections in Mexico, the presidential debates are described and it is stated: "Los debates tienen por objeto proporcionar a la sociedad la difusión y confrontación de las ideas, programas y plataformas electorales de los candidato". My question is how to translate with the perfect English word "difundir". I could use "spread" "spread out", "disseminate" or even "communicate" but which if these term or another is the right one. The term "difundir" in Spanish has a metaphoric widespread use as communicate. Thank you for your answers, colleagues.

Except for "spread out," none of the ideas you've mentioned are incorrect. However, the word "share" is commonly used in American English.
"The ostensible purpose of an election campaign debate is to give candidates a chance to share their views and attract possible voters."
"The ostensible purpose of an election campaign debate is to give candidates a chance to share their views and attract possible voters."
