Any make-up experts out there?

This is in a marketing text for foundation from Spain for translation into US English.

Would I be correct to say a 'stiff brush'? TIA

I doubt it is actually stiff (like bristle) All the cosmetic links i have found refer to 'brushes'. Do you have a picture?

@ Liz The make-up is called 'Touch powder make-up' (the client's choice of translation, not mine!) and it is just a powder compact, so not blusher. I think a blush brush is normally quite soft and assume that the brush they are referring to is a bit stiffer but haven't really got a lot to go on.

buffing brush

A buffing brush is used to apply powder foundation to the face and 'buff' it into the skin for a smooth finish - it will have stiffer bristles than the first type.

Jane, unfortunately I don't. It was based on my familiarity with using this type of brush (or a stippling brush, or a flat foundation brush) to apply a powder-based foundation. Am I correct in assuming that's the type of product? Is there a visual?

Hi Andrea, do you have any examples of buffing brush being translated as 'borla de pelo'? I can only find 'brocha para pulido/pulir'
Sadly I don't have a visual and may just have to offer the client a couple of possibilities with descriptions for them to choose.

The only 2 meanings of "borla" I know are "tassel" and "powder puff". It can't be the former, so unless it is a brush, I'd go for this.
"For a mattifying and perfecting result, apply to face with powder puff - For a translucent veil effect, sweep over face with brush ..."

I understand that a powderpuff is not made of hair ("pelo"), but my take on it is that if it was some kind of brush it would most likely be called "brocha" or "pincel".
And "borla de pelo" usually refers to a decorative hair item which my daughter calls "bobbles" or "scrunchies"

We all now know far more than we need to to about powder puffs, make up brushes etc. Thanks for all your research. I think I am going to offer a couple of possibilities to the client as I am sure they know what kind of item this is. J
