French term

BS+

French to English Medical Medical (general) Nursing notes on a patient just returned from theatre following spinal surgery.
The nurse writes: "NaCl en cours. 2eme VVP Ringer solution. PCA de morphine. Pansement propre. SU: 300cc. Redon 110cc." He/she then enters "BS+" and I don't recognize this abbreviation. Can anybody please elucidate? Thanks in advance.

Discussion

Michael Barnett Apr 14, 2013:
@Sean Were I the nurse examining a patient following spinal surgery, I would consider it an an egregious omission not to check movement and sensation in the legs (for lumbar surgery) or the arms (for neck surgery). Perhaps BS+ and BM+ refers to sensation and movement, bilateral or in the arms (bras).

Note from asker:
Hello, Drmanu. Thank you for your input. Post-op bloods were requested by the anaesthetist, and I would guess this is the nurse acknowledging that they were sent off. The actual results of post-op blood checks are recorded in the Lab results. Once again, thank you for your thoughts.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Michael Barnett : Unlikely. The notes reflect the status of the patient, not whether or not the nurse has performed some trivial procedure. If a blood test has been performed, we want to know the results specifically, not some vague BS+.
