"Physical hazard" in a Material Safety Data Sheet Apr 18, 2009

"Health hazards"
http://www.free-training.com/OSHA/hazcom/Hhaz/Def62.htm
Health Hazards: One of two major classes of hazardous materials covered by the Hazard Communication Standard. They are substances which threaten your health.

"Physical hazard"
http://www.free-training.com/osha/hazcom/Phaz/46.htm
Physical hazards are those substances which threaten your physical safety. The most common types of physical hazards are:
* Fire
* Explosion
* Chemical Reactivity

Yueyin,

I agree. We used to have to deal with controlled substances working on e-beam patternization development when I was in East Fishkill, NY. One of the chemicals that we used and had to keep an MSDS on was toluene. "Physical hazard" in this context indeed refers to the potential hazard that can cause bodily injury to personnel.

Another definition as related to an MSDS Apr 18, 2009

http://www.ilpi.com/msds/ref/hazardous.html

Definition

As defined by OSHA Standard 1910.1200 (the OSHA Haz-com standard), a hazardous chemical is one which is a physical hazard or a health hazard.

Health Hazard

Health hazard means a chemical for which there is statistically significant evidence based on at least one study conducted in accordance with established scientific principles that acute or chronic health effects may occur in exposed employees. The term "health hazard" includes chemicals which are carcinogens, toxic or highly toxic agents, reproductive toxins, irritants, corrosives, sensitizers, hepatotoxins, nephrotoxins, neurotoxins, agents which act on the hematopoietic system, and agents which damage the lungs, skin, eyes, or mucous membranes.

Appendix A provides further definitions and explanations of the scope of health hazards covered by this section, and Appendix B describes the criteria to be used to determine whether or not a chemical is to be considered hazardous for purposes of this standard.

Physical Hazard

Physical hazard means a chemical for which there is scientifically valid evidence that it is a combustible liquid, a compressed gas, explosive, flammable, an organic peroxide, an oxidizer, pyrophoric, unstable (reactive) or water-reactive.

Thanks, nigerose.

BTW, I just noticed the mistake in the phonetics of "身体" transcribed by 《金山词霸》. The correct pronunciation should be shēntǐ

I think a dictionary ought to get a simple thing like that right.

I found a few links that explain how these risky derivative contracts work. It's not very funny if you actually own one of these so-called "Equity Accumulators".

误译 Apr 25, 2009

“我会迟些杀死你”这句话给我的第一印象是, "I will kill you later than scheduled"。

http://money.jrj.com.cn/2009/04/2509574846762-2.shtml

physical contact Apr 28, 2009
